Sweden on the way to issue the Digital Swedish Crown

The governor of the Central Bank of Sweden – Stefan Ingves declared that at the beginning of 2020 Riksbank has started a pilot project to analyse the technology needed to launch the Digital Swedish Crown.

Currently in Sweden only around 1% of the GDP is constituted of physical money, the digital payments being preferred by most of the population especially after the start of Corona pandemic from safety reasons.

He also added that the government has to elaborate a legislation in order to impose the banks and the companies a “minimum capacity” to administrate physical money.

Lithuania was the first country to launch a digital country within the European Union.
