FTX to repay creditors at only $17k per BTC

FTX announced the asset values from the creditors claims will be calculated at the prices from Nov 11, 2022 when the exchange filed for bankruptcy. BTC was valued on that date at around $16.900, which led to a sharp decrease in FTT token probably due to 2 reasons:

  • sell of FTT tokens by people who bought hoping in relaunching of the exchange
  • sell of several coins by FTX valued at cca. $240 mil. in the last days, mostly SOL, BTC, ETH, APT, XRP, but also some other coins the exchange still held on its balance.

On Sep 13, 2023 FTX received U.S.Court permission to liquidate cryptocurrency assets to repay customers in US dollars. FTX is allowed to sell maximum $100 mil. per week from the total value of $3.4 bil. coins including $1.16 bil. in SOL, $560 mil. in BTC and $192 mil. in ETH.

FTX claimed they recovered more than $7 bil. in total so far.

Despite the news, SOL continued to go higher and reached the resistance at $76 (+8% compared to yesterday) while FTT ranges at $3.5, down from $6 it reached on Dec 10, 2023.
